The National Teen Book Club continues

Author Benjamin Dean joined us live to discuss his writing career, book recommendations, and young adult thrillers, which explore themes of secrets, judgment, prejudice, and loss - closely linking to the NTBC hero read theme, "Cut Both Ways."

He spoke about the importance of having difficult discussions on the under-representation of minority and diverse community writers and characters. Benjamin shared that mistakes are a natural part of your journey and should never discourage you from pursuing your goals. His novel, "This Story is a Lie," is part of the World Book Day 2025 £1 books campaign, and he is extremely proud to be part of this year's campaign.

Benjamin is a full-time author with a background in celebrity journalism, having interviewed many high-profile celebrities. His award-winning junior fiction debut, "Me, My Dad and the End of the Rainbow," was sold to publishers within 24 hours—'a whirlwind experience'. He has since published "The Secret Sunshine Project," as well as his young adult books "The King is DeadHow to Die Famous," and "This Story is a Lie."

He reminded our students that career journeys rarely go exactly as planned, but every achievement should be celebrated, and perseverance is key to success.
